I’m Rachael! Like me, you hold a mixed bag of experiences that create the unique flavor of your life.

Together, we embrace your own mixed bag of experiences, working out what you want to chew through, savor or simply spit out; the sweet, the sour — the bananas.

Mixed Bag Therapy aims to offer a casual environment where you feel comfortable, without compromising clinical care.

My Approach

I believe that everyone deserves a place where they feel heard, respected, and empowered. Social justice and anti-oppressive practice is the foundation of my work.

I recognise that a person’s struggles aren’t simply “personal issues” rather, can be best approached as systemic issues — this includes oppression, abuse, inequality, discrimination, and disadvantage.

I use only evidence-based and trauma-informed counselling interventions, ensuring your safety as well as fostering intervention that has proven effective outcomes.

I aim to offer a relaxed, real-world approach that makes therapy feel approachable and comfortable for you.

  • My work is grounded in trauma-informed cognitive behavioural therapy, which means I don’t just focus on thoughts and behaviours in isolation — I consider how your past experiences, especially trauma, may be shaping the way you think, feel, and respond. Together, we gently explore patterns that may no longer be serving you, while building practical tools to help you feel safer, more regulated, and in control. The pace is guided by you, with a strong focus on safety, choice, and trust.

  • I also draw from psychodynamic therapy, which looks at how early relationships and past experiences can influence your current emotions, behaviours, and relationships. This approach helps bring unconscious patterns into awareness, so you can better understand yourself and why certain themes keep showing up in your life. By making sense of these deeper layers, you can begin to shift long-standing patterns and respond in ways that feel more aligned with who you are now.

  • Schema therapy is woven through my work to help identify and heal long-standing emotional patterns, often formed in childhood, that can impact how you see yourself and others. These patterns, or “schemas,” can show up as things like feeling not good enough, fearing abandonment, or being overly self-critical. Together, we work to understand where these patterns come from, meet the underlying emotional needs that may not have been fulfilled, and develop healthier, more compassionate ways of relating to yourself and the world.

Sessions are available in-person, phone and online.
